The Stables Port Stephens: A New Wedding Venue Worth Knowing About

The Stables Port Stephens wedding venue in Bobs Farm

I recently had the chance to photograph at The Stables Port Stephens, and I came away thinking this is definitely somewhere I’ll be mentioning when couples ask me about wedding venues around Port Stephens.

Located in Bobs Farm, on Nelson Bay Road, The Stables has a really different feel to some of the more traditional wedding venues around the area.

There’s space, beautiful surroundings, plenty of interesting little details — and, as I discovered while I was there, a few very curious residents who may make an appearance. 🐴

A little different from your usual wedding venue

One of the things I liked about The Stables is that it doesn’t feel like you’ve walked into a venue that could be anywhere.

It has that relaxed, country feel, but there are lots of thoughtful details that make it feel special too.

For couples looking for something a little different for their wedding or celebration, I think it’s definitely worth having a look.

And, of course, one of the first things I notice when I arrive somewhere new is where I’m going to photograph.

Where’s the good light?

Where can we get away for five minutes for some quiet photos?

Where can I photograph people without it feeling like we’ve stopped the whole day?

And where can I find something a little different?

The Stables has plenty of options.

It’s all in the details

One of the things I really enjoyed photographing was all the little details around the property.

These are the things that can easily get missed when you’re busy looking at the big picture, but they’re part of what makes a place feel like itself.

The textures, the buildings, the food, the spaces where people gather and all those little things happening around you.

And that’s important to me when I’m photographing a wedding.

I don’t want your gallery to be a collection of people standing in the same spot.

I want you to be able to look back and remember where you were, what the day felt like and all the little things you probably didn’t notice while you were busy getting married.

Plenty of room to celebrate

The Stables isn’t just about finding somewhere pretty to have your photos taken.

It’s about having somewhere to actually spend time together.

There are spaces to gather, eat, talk and celebrate, which means there are plenty of opportunities for those natural photographs that happen in between everything else.

The hugs.

The laughing.

Friends catching up.

Someone sneaking another drink.

Grandparents chatting in the corner.

People on the dance floor.

Those moments aren’t necessarily written on the run sheet, but they’re often some of my favourite photographs from a wedding.

And then there are the photo opportunities…

This is probably my favourite part of photographing somewhere new.

I like looking at a venue through the camera rather than just walking through it.

A space can look completely different once you start looking for light, textures, reflections and little pockets of interesting backgrounds.

At The Stables, there are plenty of opportunities to move around and create some variety in your photos without spending hours away from your guests.

That’s something I really like.

You can have your beautiful couple photos, but still get back to the people you actually came to celebrate with.

And if you’re anything like me, you might also want to make time for some photos with the curious residents. 🐴

I mean… how could you not?

So, is The Stables worth a look?

If you’re planning a wedding around Port Stephens, Nelson Bay or the surrounding area, I think The Stables is definitely one to add to your list.

It has a relaxed feel, plenty of character and lots of possibilities for photos, while being somewhere that feels a little different from the usual wedding venue.

And because I’ve now actually photographed there, I’m very happy to add it to my list of places I can recommend when couples ask me where they should look.

If you’re getting married at The Stables — or you’re still looking for your Port Stephens wedding venue — I’d love to hear what you’re planning.

I photograph weddings throughout Port Stephens, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Hunter Valley and the Central Coast, and I’m always happy to have a chat about your plans, your venue and what you’re hoping your photos will feel like.
