What If Your Partner Hates Photos? | Lake Macquarie Photographer
If your partner hates photos and you’re worried they’re going to hate every second of your session, or you’re both feeling nervous about being photographed, I promise you’re very normal.
Honestly, if I had a dollar for every time someone told me:
“My partner HATES photos…”
…I’d probably be writing this from a little beach shack in Fiji 😂

But truthfully? It’s one of the most common things I hear before a photoshoot or wedding.
Usually, it’s one person in the family who would happily stay behind the camera instead.
And honestly… that’s completely okay.
Most of us aren’t exactly used to having a camera pointed at us 😅
Being photographed can feel awkward at first, especially if you’re not comfortable in front of the camera. So, if you’re worried your partner is going to hate every second of your session, or you’re both feeling nervous about being photographed, I promise you’re very normal.
The good news is, my sessions are not about stiff posing or fake smiles.
I’m much more focused on movement, connection, and creating space for natural moments to happen.

You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose
This is one of the biggest misconceptions people have before a session.
You don’t need to arrive knowing what to do.
That’s my job 😊
I’ll gently guide you when you need it, but I’ll also give you plenty of space to just be yourselves.
I’ll help with things like:
- where to stand
- what to do with your hands
- where to look
- how to interact naturally
But honestly? Most of the best moments happen in between anyway.
The laughing.
The cuddles.
The chaos.
The little looks at each other when you think nobody’s paying attention.
That’s the stuff that actually matters years from now.
The “I Hate Photos” Person Often Ends Up Surprising Themselves
This happens ALL the time 😂
The person who arrived reluctantly is often:
- the one making jokes
- the one relaxing first
- the one saying “that actually wasn’t too bad” afterwards
And I think that’s because I’m not trying to create perfection.
I want the whole experience to feel relaxed, easy and natural.
No pressure.
No performing.
No trying to force everyone to look perfect.
Just connection.
Teenagers, Toddlers, Quiet Partners… They’re All Welcome Here
Not every family is loud and wildly energetic.
Some kids are shy.
Some teenagers would rather be literally anywhere else 😅
Some partners are quiet and don’t love attention.
That’s okay too.
I never expect people to perform for the camera.
I work around personalities instead of against them, and honestly, that’s usually where the best photos happen.
Sometimes the quieter moments end up meaning the most.

Real Life Always Beats Perfect Posing
The truth is most of my favourite photos are never the perfectly posed ones.
They’re the moments in between.
The laughing.
The windswept hair.
The cuddles.
The chaos with kids.
The sandy feet.
The quiet little moments couples don’t even realise are happening.
That’s why I don’t expect anyone to “be good at photos”.
The best images usually happen when people stop worrying about looking perfect and simply spend time together.

The Most Important Thing
You don’t need perfect kids, perfect outfits, or a perfect plan.
Just show up as you are.
That’s more than enough 🤍
If you’ve been putting off family photos because your partner hates cameras, your kids are chaotic, or you’re worried the whole thing will feel awkward… you’re definitely not alone.
My sessions are designed to feel relaxed, low-pressure, and genuinely you from start to finish.

A Little Note If You’re Thinking About Photos
If you’re planning a photo session around Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, the Central Coast, Hunter Valley, or Port Stephens, and you’d like a photographer who can gently guide you when needed, step back when the moment calls for it, and capture you naturally as you are, I’d love to hear from you.
I’m always happy to help with choosing a location, timing the light, outfit guidance, and making the whole experience feel relaxed and easy 😊
