Hi, I’m Melissa, the photographer behind Left of The Middle Photography. Since 2013, I’ve had the joy of photographing weddings, families, and milestones across Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, and the Central Coast.
What began as a creative spark has grown into a full-time career that fills my days with connection, storytelling, and genuine moments of joy. Along the way, I’ve been honoured with a handful of awards — a lovely reminder that doing what you love really does shine through.
Melissa made us feel completely at ease from the very beginning. She captured so many genuine moments we didn't even realise were happening, and our photos tell the story of the day perfectly. Most days, Left of The Middle Photography is just me — planning, shooting, editing, and cheering you on from behind the camera. When a wedding or event needs an extra set of hands, I bring in a trusted second photographer who works with the same calm, storytelling approach.
Together (or solo), my goal is always the same: to document your day with care, attention, and authenticity.

From smudged schoolwork to awkward scissors, being a lefty has always meant doing things a bit differently.
In photography, “left of the middle” also hints at an artistic choice: placing subjects slightly off-centre to create a more natural, storytelling composition. It’s a tiny detail with big impact — a perfect reflection of the way I see and capture the world.
Because photography is personal — and I want you to feel like you know the person behind the lens:
I love sunshine, fresh flowers, and anything to do with nature.
I almost always cry happy tears during wedding vows.
I swim most days (even in winter — it’s addictive!).
I check my camera batteries twice before every shoot… photographer paranoia is real.
Overcast days? My secret favourite — soft, magic light!
Salty > sweet. Hot chips beat cake every time.
A good bushwalk with a lookout or waterfall is my happy place.
