Christmas is such a great time to get everyone together for some family photos.

The kids are growing, grandparents are together, everyone is home for the holidays and, before you know it, another Christmas has come and gone.

So why not take the opportunity to capture some photos of your family while everyone is together?

Christmas Family Photos Newcastle: What to Expect

My Christmas family sessions are simply relaxed family photography with a little Christmas thrown in.

You don’t need a perfectly styled Christmas setup or matching outfits. You don’t even need to be particularly good at having your photo taken.

I’ll gently guide you when you need it and let things unfold naturally the rest of the time.

We’ll capture the photos where everyone is looking at the camera, along with the cuddles, laughs, silly moments and all those little interactions that make your family yours.

If you’re looking for Christmas family photos Lake Macquarie families can enjoy, the session is designed to feel relaxed and easy from start to finish.

You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. I’ll help with that.

The goal is simple — joyful photos that feel like you, with natural light, warm tones and plenty of genuine connection.

Add a little Christmas to your family photos

Your Christmas photos can be as festive as you like.

Maybe your kids have a favourite Christmas jumper. Perhaps you have a special decoration that’s been part of your family Christmas for years. You might want to bring Santa hats, Christmas lights or a favourite Christmas book.

Or maybe you don’t want Christmas props at all.

That’s completely fine too.

Sometimes a beautiful outdoor family photo, with everyone together and enjoying themselves, is all you need.

The Christmas feeling can be in the details rather than taking over the whole session.

What should we wear for Christmas family photos?

You don’t need to dress everyone in matching Christmas outfits.

In fact, I usually recommend choosing clothes that feel like you and work together rather than making everyone wear exactly the same thing.

Soft colours, earthy tones, simple patterns and textures tend to photograph beautifully, but there are no hard and fast rules.

And if your family loves Christmas jumpers?

Wear them!

The most important thing is that everyone feels comfortable and can move around easily.

Once you’ve booked your session, I’ll also send you some simple styling tips to help make choosing outfits easier.

Bring the whole family

Christmas is often one of the few times of year when everyone is in the same place.

So bring them all.

Grandparents, siblings, cousins, partners — whoever makes up your family is welcome.

There’s no extra charge for including grandparents or extended family.

We can capture everyone together, then take some smaller combinations and let the session naturally move between different groups.

The more the merrier — crazy and all.

There’s no need for perfect kids

If you’re wondering whether your kids will actually cooperate for family photos…

Don’t stress.

They don’t have to sit still, smile on command or behave perfectly for an hour.

They can run, explore, cuddle, be silly, get distracted and generally be themselves.

I’ll work with their personalities and at their pace, rather than trying to force everyone into a perfect pose.

Some of my favourite family photos come from the moments nobody planned.

What happens during a Christmas family session?

Your family session runs for around 45–60 minutes, giving us plenty of time to settle in, explore your location and capture a good variety of photos.

I’ll help with choosing a location that suits your family and the type of photos you’re after, so you don’t need to arrive with everything figured out.

During the session, expect a mixture of gentle direction and natural interaction.

There’ll be some photos looking at the camera.

There’ll be cuddles, laughs, walking, playing and all the little moments in between.

And if someone needs a little break?

That’s okay too.

We’re not racing the clock.

I photograph families across Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Central Coast and Port Stephens.

Your session can take place somewhere that suits your family and the sort of photos you’re after.

If you already have a favourite location in mind, fantastic. If you’re not sure, I’ll help you work out somewhere that fits.

I love natural outdoor locations where there’s room to move, explore and interact rather than keeping everyone standing in one spot.

Soft light, natural surroundings and your family simply spending time together can create some of the most beautiful photographs.

And yes, I’m quite happy when the weather is a little cloudy. Soft, overcast light can be gorgeous for family photos.

Christmas Family Photography FAQs

How long is a Christmas family photo session?

Family sessions run for around 45–60 minutes. This gives us time to settle in, explore the location and capture a mixture of family photos and natural moments.

Can grandparents and extended family join our Christmas family photos?

Absolutely. Grandparents and extended family are welcome at no extra charge. If you’re bringing a larger group, just let me know roughly how many people will be coming so I can help choose a suitable location.

What if my kids don’t cooperate?

That’s completely okay. Kids don’t need to sit still or smile on command. They can run, explore, play, cuddle and be themselves. I’ll work with them rather than trying to force them into a particular pose.

When will we receive our Christmas family photos?

Your full gallery is delivered through a private online gallery, usually within one week of your session.

Photos for Christmas, memories for years

Christmas family photos Newcastle and Lake Macquarie

Christmas photos aren’t just about Christmas cards or having a festive photo for the fridge.

They’re a little snapshot of your family right now.

The kids who won’t always be this little.

The grandparents who won’t always be able to make it home for Christmas.

The grown-up kids who don’t always make it home for Christmas.

The chaos, the cuddles, the laughs and all the little things that make your family yours.

Because next Christmas, they’ll all be a little bit different.

So if you’re thinking about updating your family photos this Christmas, I’d love to create something relaxed, natural and personal for you.

A little Christmas. A lot of you.

If you’re planning family photos around Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Central Coast or Port Stephens, and you’re not sure where to go, don’t worry — I’m always happy to help you choose a location that suits your family.

It might be a beautiful beach, somewhere by the lake, a quiet bush track, or honestly, your own backyard.

The most important thing is that everyone feels comfortable enough to relax, have a bit of fun and forget about the camera for a while.

You don’t need perfectly behaved children, matching outfits or any idea how to pose.

Just bring yourselves — I’ll take care of the rest. 😊
